Six Militants and Drug Traffickers Arrested in Manipur Operations

Imphal, August 17: In a series of coordinated operations across various districts, security forces in Manipur have arrested six militants, including a woman, linked to several banned organizations. Additionally, six drug traffickers, also including a woman, were apprehended during these operations.

A senior police officer reported that the joint operation involved the Manipur Police and Assam Rifles, targeting areas in Imphal East and Imphal West.

The arrested militants are associated with prohibited groups such as the People’s Defense Army (PDA), People’s Liberation Army (PLA), its political wing Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF), and the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK).

According to police, these militants were involved in various illegal activities, including assaults, kidnappings, extortion, and recruiting youth into banned organizations. Security forces seized weapons, ammunition, incriminating documents, extortion receipts, cash, seals, letterheads of banned organizations, and other materials from the arrested militants.

In separate operations conducted in the tribal areas of Tengnoupal district, which borders Myanmar, and Jiribam district, adjacent to southern Assam, security forces recovered a significant cache of weapons and ammunition.

The recovered items included an AK-56, an INSAS Excalibur rifle, two INSAS rifles, a magazine, three INSAS LMG magazines, four live cartridges, three empty cartridges of a 9mm pistol, and five cartridges of 5.56mm INSAS ammunition.

Additionally, security forces arrested six drug traffickers, including a woman, from Kangpokpi and Imphal East districts. Authorities reported the seizure of a large quantity of heroin and opium, valued at several crores of rupees.

Meanwhile, the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) and Manipur Police continue extensive anti-insurgency operations across the state, focusing on remote areas, mixed-population zones, and other sensitive locations, which include search operations and area domination exercises.
