Six Arrested in Jamshedpur for Extortion and Shooting Incident

Jamshedpur, May 20: Police have made significant progress in a shooting incident involving a textile businessman in Jamshedpur’s Jugsalai market. Six criminals linked to the notorious Manish Singh gang have been arrested. All suspects were remanded to judicial custody on Wednesday.

Authorities recovered four country-made pistols, five live cartridges, three magazines, one shell casing, the vehicle used in the crime, and six mobile phones from the arrested individuals. City SP Lalit Meena provided details of the case during a press conference on Wednesday.

According to Meena, the gang initially demanded extortion from the textile businessman. When he refused, they resorted to gunfire to instill fear and assert their dominance in the area. During interrogation, all suspects confessed to their involvement in the incident, which occurred on the afternoon of May 15.

Armed assailants entered a textile shop named ‘Unique Collection’ in the Jugsalai municipal market. They arrived in a car and opened fire inside the store. Fortunately, the businessman, Dinesh Beria, narrowly escaped the attack. The daylight shooting caused panic throughout the market area. Following the incident, a First Information Report (FIR) was filed at the Jugsalai police station. Police reviewed CCTV footage from nearby cameras during their investigation.

Based on technical analysis and the footage, the criminals were identified. The investigation revealed that all suspects are affiliated with the Manish Singh gang. Police conducted raids, arresting five suspects in the railway yard of the Barmamines police station area, while another was captured in the Pavat Mohalla of Jugsalai.

According to police, four of the six arrested individuals have prior criminal records. The City SP stated that no gang involved in extortion, coercion, or criminal activities will be spared. The police are also investigating other gang members and weapon suppliers.
