Bangladeshs senior secretary will represent the country at the BIMSTEC home ministers meeting focused on regional security cooperation.

New Delhi, October 12 (Daily Kiran) : A meeting of the home ministers from BIMSTEC countries is set to take place this week in New Delhi, aimed at enhancing security cooperation in the Bay of Bengal region. Nepal’s Home Minister Sudhan Gurung will attend, marking his first foreign visit since taking office. He is expected to arrive on October 12 and participate in various ministerial discussions.
According to an official linked to the meeting, several cross-cutting security issues will be on the agenda. These topics were recommended during separate meetings held on different dates by BIMSTEC’s home secretaries and national security advisors.
Security cooperation has been a vital aspect of BIMSTEC’s regional agenda. At the fourth summit in Kathmandu in August 2018, leaders expressed their intention to strengthen collaboration and coordination among law enforcement, intelligence, and security agencies.
Additionally, the leaders decided to hold meetings of BIMSTEC home ministers and continue discussions among national security advisors to enhance cooperation on counter-terrorism and transnational crime.
Nepali officials have indicated that a meeting of BIMSTEC home secretaries will precede the ministers’ gathering. The BIMSTEC meeting is scheduled for October 13, 2026, in India.
This marks the first meeting of home ministers since the regional group was formed in 1997, and it will occur in the national capital, New Delhi. Bangladesh’s senior secretary, Manzoor Morshed Chowdhury, will lead a three-member delegation, as reported by Bangladesh’s news agency UNB. The discussions are expected to cover internal security, counter-terrorism efforts, and regional cooperation.
BIMSTEC, or the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation, includes India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, and Thailand. The organization aims to promote security, trade, connectivity, and economic cooperation among countries in the Bay of Bengal region.
