Bengaluru, May 5: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has reacted to the results of the by-elections in the state and the assembly elections across five states. On Monday, he expressed gratitude to voters for ensuring the victory of Congress candidates in Bagalkot and Davanagere. He stated that the mandate reflects the achievements of his government and the unwavering strength of the party’s ideology.
In a statement regarding the election outcomes, he noted that despite misinformation campaigns and the influence of money power, voters in both constituencies reaffirmed their trust in Congress and its governance. He emphasized the party’s commitment to maintaining this trust and expressed confidence in continued public support for the upcoming assembly elections.
Commenting on results from other states, Siddaramaiah congratulated voters in Kerala and Tamil Nadu for making a clear decision against divisive politics. He mentioned that Congress’s victory in Kerala was anticipated, attributing it to united leadership, strong candidate selection, and effective campaigning. He also acknowledged the roles of Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in the party’s performance.
He stated that the Congress legislative party in Kerala will soon elect its next Chief Minister and expressed hope that the governance model will set a national precedent. He added that this victory will further strengthen Congress in Karnataka.
Regarding West Bengal, the Chief Minister pointed out a significant anti-incumbency sentiment against the ruling government. He alleged that irregularities in the voter list revision, along with the misuse of administrative machinery, money, and muscle power, influenced the election results. He claimed that the omission of many voters’ names during the revision process also affected the outcomes.
Siddaramaiah expressed concern over the BJP’s victory in West Bengal, stating that it poses a challenge to democratic values. He accused the party of relying on religious polarization, which undermines the democratic framework. He expressed hope that voters in the state will reassess the mandate in the next Lok Sabha elections.
