Ahmedabad, April 18: In a thrilling IPL 2026 match, the Gujarat Titans (GT) triumphed over the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by five wickets. Captain Shubman Gill emerged as the star of the game, scoring an impressive 86 runs. Following the victory, Gill expressed his wish to have remained on the crease until the end to secure the win for his team.
Gill faced 50 balls during his innings, earning him the Player of the Match award. After the game, he stated, “To be honest, I don’t think it matters much. Only the win counts, and you know that playing in the finals and winning the cup are things I eagerly await. Ideally, we wanted to finish this match at least two overs early. I was genuinely hoping to finish it two overs earlier, and I was quite disappointed with how I got out. I wanted to stay on the crease until the end and finish the match.”
He further commented, “The way both Rabada and Siraj were bowling, it felt like they could take a wicket with every ball. I asked them if they were ready to bowl another over, as it was a bit hot, making it tough to bowl two consecutive overs. They had taken the match away from us in the middle overs, but taking wickets was still crucial. Their batting order is quite long; I think Sunil came in at number 9, but maintaining the mindset to take wickets is essential. Fitness is something I’ve worked on, and I’ve also focused on the mental aspects of the game. It’s about staying present and not thinking too far ahead; you don’t want to get caught up in the past. Your mind can take you anywhere, but staying in the present is what matters most.”
KKR batted first, scoring 180 runs before being all out in 20 overs, with Cameron Green leading the charge with a solid 79 runs. However, the Gujarat Titans successfully chased down the target of 181 runs, achieving it in 19.4 overs with the loss of five wickets.
