Shubhashu Shukla Shares Experience at Kennedy Space Centers Launch Complex 39A

New Delhi, June 14: Astronaut and Air Force officer Shubhashu Shukla frequently shares insights about his space journey and training on social media. Recently, he recounted his visit to NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, specifically the historic Launch Complex 39A, highlighting its significance in his training and mission journey.

In a post on Instagram, Shukla expressed that during his training, he had the opportunity to visit several locations that could play a crucial role in his future missions, including the iconic Launch Pad 39A. He described the unique feeling he experienced upon arriving, as it is the site from which many historic space missions have commenced.

Reflecting on his experience, he noted that standing beneath the launch tower and looking up reminded him of the historic moment when Neil Armstrong and his crew set off for the moon. He acknowledged that while the launch pad has been modernized over time, its historical essence remains palpable.

Shukla also mentioned a special lift at the center, featuring only two buttons—’Earth’ and ‘Space.’ He remarked that this seemingly simple design carries a profound meaning and emotional weight on launch day.

He further described the upper section of the launch pad, where the Falcon 9 rocket is viewed before launch. He explained that the rocket is initially positioned horizontally and then raised vertically before launch. Standing there and envisioning future missions was an exhilarating experience for him.

Shukla concluded by reflecting on events that occurred around the same time last year, noting that they now feel both distant and incredibly close. He emphasized that this experience deepens his understanding of the seriousness and excitement of space journeys.
