Ballia, August 28: The police in Ballia’s Bhimpura area arrested two members of a gang involved in theft under the pretense of cleaning women’s jewelry and old brass utensils. This occurred following an encounter on Thursday night. Authorities claim to have recovered an illegal .315 bore firearm, two cartridges, three gold ornaments, ₹15,600 in cash, and a motorcycle from the suspects.
According to police reports, the Bhimpura police were patrolling the area on Thursday night when they received a tip-off about suspicious individuals near Premraja village on the Ibrahim Patti-Udharan road. Upon arrival, the police warned the suspects to surrender. Instead of complying, the gang members allegedly opened fire on the police team.
In the ensuing exchange, one suspect was shot in the right leg. The second suspect attempted to flee but was apprehended by the police. The injured suspect has been identified as Arvind Soni, a resident of Panchveer, Sahebpur Kamal, Begusarai district, Bihar. The other suspect is Pankaj Soni, also from Sahebpur Kamal, Begusarai district.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the duo had been traveling from village to village, tricking women into allowing them to clean their jewelry and utensils. During these encounters, they would seize the opportunity to steal the women’s ornaments. Police indicated that the suspects had committed similar thefts between August 21 and 24.
Additional Superintendent of Police Dinesh Shukla stated that this operation was part of a broader initiative against criminals. He confirmed that the police acted based on information received during their patrol. The injured suspect was taken to the community health center in Nagara for treatment, where his condition is reported to be stable. Legal proceedings against the suspects are ongoing.
