Shocking Double Murder Discovered in Idukki, Kerala

Idukki, April 27: A horrifying double murder case has emerged from Nedumkandam in Idukki district, Kerala. A 70-year-old woman and her son have allegedly been murdered, with their bodies buried in their own home.

The police have intensified their search for the woman’s younger son, who is currently missing.

The deceased have been identified as 70-year-old Marykutty Mathew and her 48-year-old son Reji, residents of Pachadi near Nedumkandam. Both had been missing since early April, with police confirming they were last seen on April 9.

Initially, little attention was paid to their disappearance. However, suspicion grew when the younger son, Saji, reportedly gave contradictory answers to locals inquiring about their whereabouts.

Following a complaint from Marykutty’s daughter, the police conducted a search of the family home. During this search, two decomposed bodies were discovered buried on the premises, believed to be those of Marykutty and Reji.

According to Idukki SP K.M. Sabu Mathew, the bodies were in an advanced state of decomposition, making identification challenging. He stated that a post-mortem examination is necessary to confirm their identities and determine the exact cause of death.

Preliminary investigations suggest a possible family dispute. Relatives, including Marykutty’s son-in-law Raju, reported frequent arguments between Reji and Saji. Raju noted that their daily exchanges often led to conflict. When asked about Marykutty, Saji’s responses were inconsistent.

Police suspect that Saji may have murdered his mother and older brother before burying them on the property. A forensic team has conducted a thorough examination of the scene, and the bodies have been sent to Idukki Medical College for further investigation.

Authorities have launched an extensive search operation under the supervision of the district police chief to locate Saji. Investigators are also gathering statements from family members and local residents to piece together the events.

Officials stated that it will only be clear whether these deaths were indeed homicides after the forensic and post-mortem investigations are completed.
