Solapur, June 3: A disturbing incident has emerged from Solapur, Maharashtra, where a cleric attempted to molest an 11-year-old girl who had come to a madrasa for religious education.
The girl bravely reported the incident to her family, prompting them to file a complaint with the police. According to Police Commissioner M. Rajkumar, a case has been registered against the accused cleric under the POCSO Act. He has since been presented in court and remanded to police custody for two days, during which he will be interrogated regarding the case.
Reports indicate that the girl’s family has demanded strict action against the cleric. They insisted that he should not be spared under any circumstances, emphasizing that such behavior is intolerable.
The police revealed that the cleric would send other children home but kept this particular girl back, attempting to molest her. Following the incident, she informed her parents.
Authorities are currently questioning the accused cleric on various points to uncover any additional facts related to the case. The accused has been identified as Maulana Umar Rizvi, 53, originally from Uttar Pradesh, who has been residing in Solapur for several years, providing religious education to girls in the madrasa.
