Allegations of Corruption Reach Punjab Chief Ministers Family Amid ED Investigation

Sunil Jakhar calls for resignation of Punjabs Chief Minister amid corruption allegations involving a ₹5 crore deal linked to a serious case.

Chandigarh, October 17 (Daily Kiran) : Former Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar has reacted strongly to reports of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) detaining Amardeep Grewal, the brother-in-law of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, at Delhi Airport over an alleged ₹5 crore deal. Jakhar described the situation as serious and demanded the Chief Minister’s resignation, suggesting that further revelations may emerge.

Jakhar asserted that the corruption allegations appear to involve Mann’s family directly. This case is reportedly linked to accusations of attempting to conceal a rape case involving two young girls. He emphasized that while Mann’s government promotes a message of women’s respect, the Chief Minister must address the current controversy. Jakhar insisted that Mann should step down until the investigation concludes and the truth is revealed.

Additionally, Jakhar accused Mann of being influenced by Arvind Kejriwal, claiming that the real power in Punjab lies with Kejriwal. He warned that the investigation could uncover a broader network of corruption, suggesting that while Mann may have benefited minimally, significant sums could have reached other Aam Aadmi Party leaders. As the inquiry progresses, Jakhar anticipates major disclosures.

He reiterated the necessity for Mann to resign, advocating for a thorough investigation to clarify the connections between power and corruption in Punjab.

Jakhar also highlighted serious allegations against the Punjab government, referencing the murder of a drug activist in Mansa. He cited a drug inspector’s case involving the recovery of ₹7-8 crore in cash from a locker, along with gold and foreign currency found at the official’s residence. The Punjab Director General of Police has also mentioned links between this official and jailed drug traffickers. Despite these allegations, the official was later reinstated and promoted to a significant position.

Jakhar questioned the rationale behind assigning critical responsibilities to officials accused of serious crimes like drug trafficking and money laundering. He pointed out that the drug trade has become a lucrative business for some in Punjab. Following the central home minister’s request for files related to the Mansa case and another involving Gulzar Singh, Jakhar sees this as a pivotal moment for investigation. He called for a comprehensive probe into cross-border smuggling and the alleged illegal operations run from prisons.

In closing, Jakhar stressed the need for an impartial investigation into the allegations of corruption and drug-related activities in Punjab to uncover the complete truth.
