Jaipur, April 23: Shiv Ratan Agarwal, the Chairman and Managing Director of the globally renowned snack company Bikaji Foods International, passed away from a heart attack in Chennai on Thursday. He was 74 years old.
Reports indicate that Agarwal was in Chennai with his family for his wife’s medical treatment. She had recently undergone heart bypass surgery and was advised to rest. The family was staying at a hotel during her recovery.
Around 7:30 AM on Thursday, Agarwal’s health suddenly deteriorated. He was rushed to a private hospital, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival.
The Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Bhajan Lal Sharma, expressed his condolences, stating that the news of the passing of the prominent entrepreneur from Bikaner is extremely sorrowful. He prayed for the departed soul to find peace and for the grieving family to have the strength to bear this immense loss.
Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot also mourned Agarwal’s death, describing it as a significant loss. He wrote on the social media platform X that the sudden demise of the renowned industrialist and leader of Bikaji is deeply saddening. Gehlot noted that Agarwal was instrumental in giving Bikaner’s bhujia recognition both nationally and internationally.
He prayed for the peace of the departed soul and for the bereaved family to find strength during this difficult time.
Shiv Ratan Agarwal began the Bikaji brand in Bikaner, transforming a small business into one of the country’s leading packaged snack companies. The company initially started as ‘Shivdeep Food Products,’ named after his son, Deepak Agarwal. This brand later evolved into Bikaji.
After a business split with the Haldiram family, Agarwal chose to forge his own path, starting the bhujia manufacturing business in Bikaner, which eventually grew into a large industry.
In 1993, the company was renamed ‘Bikaji,’ inspired by Rao Bika, the founder of Bikaner. This name helped establish the brand with regional identity on a global scale.
