Shaurya Bhattacharya Takes Two-Shot Lead at Kapil Dev Invitational Tour Championship

Greater Noida, October 7 (Daily Kiran) : Shaurya Bhattacharya has secured a two-shot lead at the Kapil Dev Invitational Tour Championship, scoring six-under-66 in the first round on Wednesday. The event, held at the JP Greens Golf and Spa Resort in Greater Noida, saw the 23-year-old, a three-time DP World PGTI winner, sink seven birdies. He only dropped one shot, a par on the eighth hole.

Starting the week ranked 14th in the ‘Race to DP World India Championship,’ Bhattacharya is close to claiming another title this season. He previously finished as a joint runner-up in both the ‘Players Championship 2026’ and the ‘Kolar Open 2026.’

Chandigarh’s Shubhankar Sharma, a two-time PGTI tour winner, sits in second place with a score of four-under-68. His round included an eagle on the par-five 12th hole, along with three birdies and a bogey.

Shubhankar ended an eight-year wait for a professional title by winning the ‘Boulders Classic’ on the PGTI circuit in April.

Tied for third place with scores of two-under-70 are Bangladesh’s Jamal Hussain, Dhruv Shyoran from Gurugram, and Manoj S from Bengaluru. Jamal recorded three birdies against one bogey, while Shyoran had six birdies and four bogeys. Manoj’s round included five birdies and three bogeys.

The tournament features a unique pro-am format, allowing amateur players to compete alongside professionals across all four rounds. Due to the lengthy play, some competitors had to finish under floodlights.

Leading the ‘Race to India Championship,’ Saptak Talwar began with a score of three-over-75, placing him in a tie for 36th. In the pro-am event, the team of professional Shaurya Bhattacharya and amateur Dr. Hamidi emerged victorious with a score of 44 Stableford points, winning on a countback basis.
