Mumbai, June 19: In an upcoming episode of the popular music reality show ‘Indian Idol,’ renowned actor Shatrughan Sinha will share touching memories from the early days of his career, focusing on his mentorship journey with the legendary late actor Dev Anand.
Sinha revealed that his cinematic journey truly began thanks to Dev Anand. He stated, “My life started with Dev Sahab. He not only gave me a chance but also blessed me. He cast me in his film ‘Prem Pujari.’ Although it was a small role, that part gave me recognition, and people praised my performance.”
He recounted playing a Pakistani character in the film. “The movie featured the famous song ‘Phoolon Ke Rang Se, Dil Ki Kalam Se.’ When I went for the shoot and delivered my lines, everyone present started applauding. That moment was incredibly special for me,” Sinha shared.
Sinha also recalled a valuable lesson from Dev Anand, who advised him, “It’s good to be inspired by someone, to draw enthusiasm and energy, and to learn, but never imitate anyone. Always maintain your originality and identity.”
This advice resonated deeply with Sinha. He went on to shoot another scene that required him to deliver a lengthy dialogue. “When I completed that shot, the loudest applause came not from anyone else but from Dev Anand himself. He stepped in front of the camera and wholeheartedly encouraged me. He was so happy that day,” Sinha reminisced.
Additionally, Sinha disclosed that he later worked with Dev Anand again in the film ‘Gambler,’ where he had another small yet significant role. He emphasized that the guidance and faith Dev Anand placed in him have been the greatest assets of his career.
