Sharad Kelkar Reflects on the Evolution of Wedding Stories in Indian Television

Mumbai, May 28: Actor Sharad Kelkar has shared his insights on the changing portrayal of weddings in Indian television. He plays Arya in the popular show ‘Tum Se Tum Tak,’ which will feature an emotional wedding scene in its upcoming episodes. Kelkar first entered the television industry years ago with the iconic show ‘Saat Phere,’ which centered around relationships and marriage.

Over the past few years, the depiction of weddings on television has significantly evolved. It has shifted from mere grandeur and celebration to narratives filled with emotional depth, realism, and complex relationships.

Discussing the changes in wedding-related storytelling, Kelkar stated, “Returning to a wedding track on Zee TV after so many years strangely brings back old memories, as my television career also began with shows like ‘Saat Phere,’ where relationships and marriage were the emotional core of the story. However, to be honest, the biggest change in recent years has been in our perspective on weddings on television.”

He noted that weddings were often viewed solely as lavish ceremonies. Now, audiences connect more with the emotional truths of relationships, the flaws, the struggles, and the decisions people make to stay together.

Kelkar added, “As an actor, I feel I have also changed significantly. Earlier, you would perform scenes; today, you understand the silence, emotions, and the weight of the characters much more deeply. Arya’s character is emotionally multifaceted, appearing strong on the outside but vulnerable in many ways, which makes this wedding track even more special for me.”

He emphasized that, as actors, they grow alongside the audience. Today, viewers value authenticity over perfection, making storytelling much more engaging. Therefore, tracking a wedding after so many years feels more like celebrating a journey in which the audience has emotionally invested.

‘Tum Se Tum Tak’ airs on Zee TV.
