Mumbai, August 31: Singer Akriti Kakkar is making waves with her new song, ‘O Jaanu.’ This track transports listeners back to the vibrant world of the past. The song captures the essence of disco music from Bollywood’s 70s and 80s. Akriti collaborated with renowned singer and composer Palash Sen to create this nostalgic piece. The music video is equally unique, featuring both artists as iconic figures from that era.
In discussing ‘O Jaanu,’ Akriti stated, “I wanted the listeners to connect with various emotions. For me, this song is a musical journey that evokes memories of the disco era. I believe music should have an impact that makes a person feel something different. With this song, I aimed to blend the fun of the past with a modern presentation.”
She added, “The purpose of this song is also to pay tribute to the artists from that time who have been cherished for decades. The melody and style reflect the pop, funk, and disco music of Bollywood from the 70s and 80s. The music was composed by Suvam Moitra, while the lyrics were penned by Geet Sagar.”
Akriti emphasized, “Whenever I create a new song, I strive to make it distinct from my previous work. I don’t want to limit myself to just one genre. Many advise artists to stick to a particular style, but I disagree. My voice is my identity.”
In ‘O Jaanu,’ Akriti showcases various personas, including Marilyn Monroe, Zeenat Aman, Parveen Babi, Basanti, Mastani, and Manjulika. The video features memorable glimpses from both Bollywood and Hollywood.
She expressed her excitement, saying, “For a long time, I wanted to host a themed party based on famous characters from Bollywood and Hollywood. When the opportunity arose to create a music video in this style, I was thrilled. I embraced these characters not to compete with them but to express love and respect. It wasn’t easy to portray multiple characters in succession; each required different preparations, but my team made the process much smoother.”
