
New Chandigarh, October 3 (Daily Kiran) : West Indies secured a thrilling victory against India in the final ODI of the series, thanks to captain Shai Hope’s impressive unbeaten 162 runs. This match, held at the PCA International Cricket Stadium, marked West Indies’ highest successful run chase in ODIs. Despite this win, India clinched the series 2-1.
After winning the toss, India opted to bat first. They faced an early setback, losing two wickets for just four runs. However, Rohit Sharma steadied the innings, forming a crucial partnership of 137 runs with Ruturaj Gaikwad, who scored 57 runs. Rohit contributed 92 runs off 85 balls, hitting three sixes and ten fours.
KL Rahul then took charge, building a significant partnership of 65 runs with Naman Dhir for the fifth wicket, bringing India to a total of 225 runs. Naman made 30 runs before Rahul, alongside debutant Anshul Kamboj, added 40 runs in 28 balls. Rahul finished the innings unbeaten on 129 runs, striking six sixes and ten fours, helping India set a formidable score of 351/7.
For West Indies, Jayden Seales was the standout bowler, claiming three wickets, while Keemo Paul took two and Gudakesh Motie added another.
In response, West Indies chased down the target in 48.2 overs. John Campbell contributed a mere 10 runs before Shai Hope took control of the innings. He formed a crucial second-wicket partnership of 109 runs with Amir Jangoo, who scored 67 runs off 56 balls.
Hope continued to build partnerships, adding 56 runs with Sherfane Rutherford, who made 24 runs. Despite losing wickets, Hope remained steadfast, adding 65 runs with Keemo Paul, who scored 44 runs. With the score at 290 and five wickets down, the match was poised for a thrilling finish.
Hope’s unbeaten 162 came off 143 balls, featuring three sixes and 17 fours. He partnered with Gudakesh Motie, who scored 19 runs off 14 balls, to secure a historic win for the team.
Following this ODI, both teams will face off in a five-match T20 series from October 6 to 17.
