Kolkata, October 3 (Daily Kiran) : Brazil, a five-time World Cup champion, showcased its football prowess by defeating India 4-0 in a historic match held at Salt Lake Stadium on October 3, 2026. This marked the first encounter between the senior international men’s teams of Brazil and India.
The Indian team started strong, managing to hold Brazil off initially. However, as the game progressed, Brazil began to assert its dominance, scoring two goals before halftime.
The opening goal came in the 28th minute from Estevao, who skillfully maneuvered into the penalty area and fired a shot toward the near post. Indian goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu managed to get a touch on the ball but could not prevent it from entering the net.
Brazil maintained pressure and extended their lead to 2-0 just three minutes before halftime. Estevao played a crucial role again, assisting Pedro, who attempted a difficult shot from an acute angle. Although Gurpreet appeared to be in position to block it, the ball slipped through his hands and crossed the goal line.
After halftime, Brazil’s head coach Carlo Ancelotti made five substitutions, bringing on Bruno Guimaraes, Gabriel Magalhaes, Wanderson, Samuel Lino, and Douglas Luiz. Despite these changes, Brazil continued to control the match, scoring their third goal in the 58th minute.
India lost possession of the ball in a dangerous area, and Brazil swiftly capitalized on the opportunity. Lino received the ball inside the penalty area and placed a well-aimed shot into the far corner, leaving Gurpreet with little chance to save it.
In injury time, Lino added a second goal, finalizing Brazil’s impressive 4-0 victory. This match was significant not only for the scoreline but also because it marked Brazil’s first-ever appearance in India in a senior men’s national team match.
Brazil, currently ranked fifth in the FIFA men’s world rankings, became the highest-ranked team to face India since the ranking system was established. India, on the other hand, is positioned at 138th. Prior to this match, India had drawn 1-1 against Panama, the 44th-ranked team, marking their first positive result against a top-50 side without suffering a defeat.
