West Indies Jewel Andrew Injured During Match Against India, Rushed to Hospital

New Chandigarh, October 3 (Daily Kiran) : During the third ODI match against India on Saturday, Jewel Andrew, the West Indies wicketkeeper-batsman, sustained a finger injury while attempting to catch a ball. The incident occurred in the 36th over of India’s innings at the new PCA Stadium in New Chandigarh.

Naman Dheer, batting at the time, hit a delivery from left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie towards cover, where Andrew made a spectacular catch, breaking a dangerous 65-run partnership. Dheer was dismissed for 30 runs off 21 balls.

However, the catch came at a cost. Andrew injured his finger and had to leave the field for immediate medical attention and further examination. As a result, Cricket West Indies (CWI) announced that Andrew would not be able to start the West Indies innings, which was chasing a target of 352 runs. Captain Shai Hope stepped in to open alongside John Campbell.

CWI’s medical update stated, “Jewel Andrew has been taken to the hospital for an X-ray after injuring his finger while catching Naman Dheer during India’s innings. He was originally supposed to start the innings, but now captain Shai Hope will partner with John Campbell at the top of the order.”

This injury means Campbell has now become Hope’s third opening partner in this series.

Winning the toss and opting to bat, the Indian team scored 351 runs for the loss of seven wickets. They faced early setbacks, losing two wickets for just four runs. Rohit Sharma stabilized the innings with a solid partnership of 137 runs for the third wicket with Ruturaj Gaikwad, scoring 92 runs before his dismissal.

KL Rahul played a remarkable innings, remaining unbeaten on 129 runs off 87 balls, including six sixes and ten fours, while Gaikwad contributed 57 runs with five boundaries. From the opposition, Jayden Seales was the standout bowler, claiming three wickets, while Keemo Paul took two and Gudakesh Motie secured one wicket.
