Amritsar, October 3 (Daily Kiran) : India triumphed over Pakistan by 19 runs on Saturday, clinching the gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games. Opener Abhishek Sharma set the stage for the victory with an impressive 61 runs off just 28 balls. His father, Rajkumar Sharma, expressed immense pride in the team’s performance.

Following the historic win, Rajkumar Sharma told reporters, “I congratulate the people of India on winning the gold medal. The BCCI sent a fantastic team, and the players performed excellently to secure the win against Pakistan.”

In the final match, India batted first, scoring 211 runs while losing six wickets. Alongside Abhishek, Tilak Verma contributed with an unbeaten 51. In response, Pakistan managed only 192 runs, losing six wickets in their innings.

Rajkumar Sharma commented on the significance of the final match, stating, “Finals are always historic, watched by the entire world. The anticipation for an India-Pakistan match is immense. It’s a joyous day that our cricket team has won a gold medal at the Asian Games. This will be recorded in history. Our women’s team also secured a gold medal. I congratulate all Indian athletes participating in the Asian Games, especially those who won medals.”

He also noted the challenges posed by the pitch in Japan, saying, “Scoring runs here is difficult. Players had to understand the pitch well, and making runs on such a surface is truly challenging. Scoring 200 runs is no easy feat. I commend all the players for their outstanding performances. Every member of the Indian team is talented, and I congratulate them. The BCCI deserves recognition as well.”

Looking ahead, the Indian team is set to play a five-match T20 series against the West Indies from October 6 to 17. Abhishek will head straight into this series following the Asian Games. Rajkumar shared, “He (Abhishek) will be playing against the West Indies right after the Asian Games. The first match is on October 6. Abhishek will arrive on the 5th and play on the 6th. It’s going to be an exciting series, as the West Indies team is also very strong. I hope India claims this series.”
