Srinagar, October 3 (Daily Kiran) : The Indian men’s cricket team has garnered accolades for their recent triumph over Pakistan in the gold medal match at the Asian Games 2026, winning by 19 runs. Mithun Manhas, president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), praised the team led by Shreyas Iyer for their impressive performance. He believes that the team has established its dominance on the global stage, with no significant challenges remaining.
Speaking to reporters on the third day of the Irani Cup match between Rest of India and Jammu & Kashmir at the Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium, Manhas stated, “They are the best team in the tournament. We have won this title nine times before and were the defending champions. The way they performed this time is commendable. We have defeated our arch-rival Pakistan. I don’t think there are any challenges left for them now.”
He further emphasized the team’s ability to handle pressure, saying, “No other team in the country can manage pressure situations like ours. Today is a day of great joy, and the entire nation should celebrate. I would like to thank Jay Shah once again. During that time, he was the BCCI General Secretary and contributed significantly to building this team. Not only for the men’s team but also our women’s team, which has won the World Cup. He has made a substantial contribution beyond men’s cricket, and I want to thank him specifically.”
Manhas also highlighted the expanding reach of cricket under Shah’s leadership, remarking, “The sport is becoming popular worldwide. I just spoke about the ICC chairman. He has played a significant role as BCCI secretary and is now the ICC president. You can see teams from various countries participating. Every nation is getting involved in cricket. It’s great to see cricket becoming a global sport.”
Reflecting on the final match, he noted, “When you play in the finals, you want every player to step up and perform well, and we saw that today. Abhishek gave us a solid start, and then Tilak nearly finished the innings. In bowling, Washi took responsibility, while Axar played his usual style. We know what weapons Bumrah has. It was a collective effort, and overall, it was a fantastic win.”
