Severe Weather Alert: Thunderstorms and Hail Expected in Madhya Pradesh

Bhopal, May 5: A significant weather change is anticipated in Madhya Pradesh over the next 24 hours, with thunderstorms, lightning, hail, and strong winds expected in several districts.

Areas such as Seoni, Balaghat, Mandla, Kanha, Dindori, Anuppur, Amarkantak, South Umaria, South Shahdol, Eastern Gwalior, Andhra Pradesh, and Bhind may experience moderate thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and hail. Wind speeds could reach up to 60 km/h.

In the evening, light thunderstorms with lightning are likely in Morena, West Gwalior, Datia, North Umaria, North Shahdol, Chhatarpur, South Sidhi, and South Shahdol.

According to a bulletin released on Tuesday, strong winds of 50-60 km/h may affect parts of Bhopal, Vidisha, Raisen, Sehore, Rajgarh, Narmadapuram, Betul, Barwani, Dhar, Guna, Ashoknagar, Shivpuri, Gwalior, Bhind, Morena, Shyopur, Rewa, Satna, Narsinghpur, Chhindwara, Seoni, Balaghat, Panna, Sagar, and other districts.

Regions including Indore, Shajapur, Jabalpur, Mandla, Umaria, Dindori, Katni, and Damoh are also expected to see winds of 40-50 km/h. Hail is likely in Khandwa, Khargone, Datia, Singrauli, Sidhi, Shahdol, Chhatarpur, Tikamgarh, and Niwari.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) warns that hail could damage standing crops, fruits, vegetables, and fragile structures. Farmers are advised to take protective measures, such as covering crops or harvesting early where possible. Livestock should be secured, and vehicles should be covered to prevent damage. Citizens are urged to stay indoors during storms, unplug electrical devices, and avoid seeking shelter under trees or near power lines.

According to meteorological conditions, a western disturbance is present as a cyclonic circulation over Kashmir and surrounding areas, with low-pressure areas extending into Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh. These systems may lead to stormy activities across the state until May 9.

A new western disturbance is expected to arrive in the western Himalayan region on May 10, which could also impact the weather in northern India.
