Severe Weather Alert Issued for Madhya Pradesh Over Next Five Days

Bhopal, June 4: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for thunderstorms, lightning, hail, and strong winds across Madhya Pradesh for the next five days.

According to the weather bulletin released on Thursday, moderate to severe weather activities are expected in various parts of the state. The IMD predicts thunderstorms accompanied by winds reaching speeds of 50 to 60 kilometers per hour, with some areas experiencing gusts up to 70 kilometers per hour.

In the evening, regions including Jabalpur, Bhedaghat, Guna, Rewa, and Katni may witness thunderstorms and lightning with wind speeds reaching 70 kilometers per hour.

Additionally, districts such as Satna, Chitrakoot, Maihar, Mauganj, Sidhi, Singrauli, Umaria, Shahdol, Anuppur, Amarkantak, Niwari, Orchha, Tikamgarh, Chhatarpur, Khajuraho, Panna, Sagar, Damoh, Indore, Dewas, Barwani, Khargone, Shajapur, Rajgarh, and Narsinghpur are expected to experience light storms and lightning with winds up to 50 kilometers per hour.

The IMD has issued an orange alert for certain areas in Neemuch, Morena, Shyopur Kalan, Chhatarpur, and Tikamgarh districts. A yellow alert has been announced for several districts, including Bhopal, Vidisha, Raisen, Sehore, Narmadapuram, Betul, Harda, Burhanpur, Khandwa, Khargone, Barwani, Alirajpur, Jhabua, Dhar, Indore, Ratlam, Ujjain, Dewas, Shajapur, Agar Malwa, Mandsaur, Guna, Ashoknagar, Shivpuri, Gwalior, Datia, Bhind, Rewa, Satna, Katni, Jabalpur, Chhindwara, Seoni, Mandla, Balaghat, Panna, Damoh, and Sagar.

According to the IMD, the southwest monsoon has advanced over parts of the Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep, Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and the Bay of Bengal. Additionally, an active western disturbance over northern Pakistan and its associated cyclonic circulation are influencing the weather.

Over the past 24 hours, several regions in Madhya Pradesh recorded rainfall, with Guna experiencing winds at a speed of 57 kilometers per hour.

The weather department has advised residents to stay indoors during thunderstorms, avoid seeking shelter under trees, and keep away from open fields, water bodies, and weak structures. Farmers are urged to postpone harvesting and take necessary precautions to protect standing crops from hail. Vehicle drivers are advised to exercise caution during low visibility conditions.

The IMD has called on citizens to follow safety guidelines to mitigate risks associated with lightning, strong winds, and hail.
