Mumbai, September 30 (Daily Kiran) : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has made a significant arrest in Mumbai, apprehending a senior overseer from Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) in connection with a bribery case. The arrest occurred on September 30, 2026, following a complaint lodged against the official.
According to the complaint, the senior overseer, stationed in the Umred area, allegedly demanded a bribe of ₹50,000 in exchange for processing the payment of the third bill for ongoing work. The complainant had secured a contract for the installation of two borewells and a submersible pump at a rehabilitation site in Pirwa village, along with laying internal main lines and distribution pipelines.
Acting on this information, the CBI set up a sting operation. The senior overseer was caught red-handed while accepting ₹40,000 as a bribe. He has since been arrested, and the investigation is ongoing.
In a related incident, a CBI court in Aurangabad sentenced an income tax officer, Satish Kumar Bhadaani, to five years in prison and imposed a fine of ₹1.5 lakh for his involvement in a separate bribery case. Bhadaani, who was working in the Jalgaon income tax office, was found guilty of accepting a bribe of ₹40,000 from a taxpayer. This case was also initiated based on a written complaint received by the CBI in September 2016.
The CBI continues to pursue investigations into these corruption cases as part of its broader efforts to combat bribery and maintain integrity within public services.
