Eugene, April 19: Indian athlete Selva Prabhu has continued his impressive performance in the 2026 athletics season by winning the men’s triple jump title at the Oregon Team Invitational 2026.
The 21-year-old Selva achieved a winning jump of 16.61 meters at the renowned Hayward Field, securing the top position on the scoreboard. He showcased remarkable consistency throughout the competition, also recording jumps of 16.57 meters and 16.37 meters.
Apollos Edwards finished in second place with a best jump of 16.53 meters, while Jahvor Bennett claimed third with a jump of 16.11 meters.
Having won a silver medal at the World Athletics Under-20 Championships in 2022, Selva has maintained his rhythm this season. His personal best of 17.05 meters, achieved at the NCAA Indoor Championships 2026 in Fayetteville, currently stands as the Indian indoor national record.
The overall national record for men’s triple jump is held by Praveen Chithravel, who has jumped 17.37 meters on two occasions.
This victory in Oregon marks Selva Prabhu’s third title of the season. He kicked off the year with a jump of 16.49 meters at the ‘Then Baker Athletics Meet’ held in Manhattan, Kansas. This performance allowed him to surpass the qualifying standard of 16.28 meters set by the Athletics Federation of India for the 2026 Asian Games.
However, meeting the qualifying standard does not guarantee selection for the Indian team. According to the guidelines of the Athletics Federation of India, athletes must participate in at least three domestic competitions, including mandatory attendance at state-level meets, to be eligible for selection.
Earlier this month, Selva Prabhu also secured top honors at the ‘Stanford Invitational’ in Palo Alto with a jump of 15.76 meters. His consistent performance this season includes being the runner-up in three other competitions, highlighting his ongoing excellence. The Oregon Team Invitational is classified as a ‘Category E’ meet on the World Athletics calendar.
