Karaikudi, March 31: Seeman, the chief coordinator of the Tamil Nationalist Movement (NTK), submitted his nomination for the upcoming Tamil Nadu elections from the Karaikudi assembly constituency on Monday. He arrived at the election office located in the Devakottai sub-collector’s office with family members.
Before presenting his nomination papers, he sought blessings from his mother, a moment witnessed by a large gathering of party workers and supporters outside the office.
As part of the nomination process, a second set of documents was filed under the name of his wife, Kayalvizhi, who is listed as an alternate candidate. This is a standard electoral practice to ensure continuity in case of unexpected disqualifications or withdrawals.
Immediately after filing his nomination, Seeman addressed the media, sharply criticizing the “culture of freebies” promoted by Dravidian parties in Tamil Nadu. He questioned the rationale behind distributing consumer goods like mixers, grinders, and washing machines.
According to him, such policies have conditioned people to rely on material gifts rather than demand structural reforms. He argued that the real needs of the public lie elsewhere.
Referring to public transport, Seeman stated that citizens are not merely asking for free bus services; they are demanding quality infrastructure and reliable systems. He remarked, “Has anyone asked for free buses, or are they asking for better buses?”
Seeman pointed out that the state’s budgets often run into deficits, raising concerns about the sustainability of such welfare schemes. He questioned, “If every budget shows a deficit, why continue announcing such free schemes?” He called for a more responsible and development-oriented approach to governance.
