Security Heightened at Godhra Railway Station Following Punjab Blast

Following the explosion near Sarhind railway station in Punjab’s Fatehgarh Sahib district, security agencies conducted a thorough search operation at Godhra railway station in Gujarat on Sunday. This precautionary measure aims to prevent any potential threats and ensure passenger safety amid heightened vigilance across major railway stations nationwide.

The search was carried out between 12 noon and 1 pm under the supervision of senior officials from the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF). Special units, including the Godhra Special Bomb Disposal Squad and trained explosive detection dog squads, were deployed to assist in the coordinated inspection of the entire station premises.

During the hour-long operation, officials meticulously examined railway platforms, waiting areas, passenger movement zones, railway yards, luggage compartments, and areas surrounding the railway tracks. The teams searched systematically to rule out the presence of any suspicious objects, explosives, or unauthorized individuals.

Authorities confirmed that no suspicious items or persons were found during the inspection, and normalcy was restored at the station. Nonetheless, security agencies have stated that alertness will be maintained at elevated levels and similar search operations may be repeated if necessary in the coming days.

It is noteworthy that on Friday night, an explosion damaged a section of railway tracks used for freight trains near Khanpur village, approximately five kilometres from Sarhind station. The blast occurred around 9:50 pm as a goods train was passing through, causing the engine to derail. Fortunately, the locomotive pilot sustained only minor injuries and no other casualties have been reported, according to police.
