Bageshwar, May 31: A search operation is underway in Uttarakhand’s Bageshwar for a missing trekker on the Pindari Glacier trek. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) is actively involved in the search, but the trekker has yet to be located.
Officials reported that on the night of May 29, they received information from the Kapkot police station about a trekker named Vishesh Chauhan from Noida, Uttar Pradesh. He had gone on the trek with a local porter but lost contact during their return journey and failed to return at the scheduled time. Consequently, assistance from the SDRF was requested to locate him.
Upon receiving the report, a team led by Head Constable Tika Singh Karki from the SDRF post in Kapkot, along with local police, promptly set out for the site. During the search, the team descended approximately 60 to 70 meters to conduct a thorough search using rope techniques at the locations indicated by the guide. During this operation, the missing trekker’s camera was recovered, prompting an expanded search along the banks of the Pinder River and surrounding areas.
However, no trace of Vishesh Chauhan has been found. Officials noted that ongoing heavy rainfall and extremely poor weather conditions have hindered the safe continuation of the operation. The SDRF plans to resume the search as soon as weather conditions improve. Coordinated efforts by the SDRF and local police to locate the missing trekker are ongoing.
