Saurabh Bhardwaj Accuses Delhi Government of Creating Debt Crisis

New Delhi, March 7: Saurabh Bhardwaj, the Delhi state president of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has accused the Delhi government of plunging the capital into debt within just one year. He claimed that for the first time in Delhi’s history, the government is forced to borrow ₹1,000 crore from the open market.

On Saturday, Bhardwaj pointed out that last year, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta presented a budget of ₹1 lakh crore, which was hailed as a significant achievement. However, he described this budget as merely a “balloon of air.”

He questioned why the government needs to borrow money now if such a substantial budget was presented, and where the funds have gone. Bhardwaj noted that after the BJP came to power, large boards were erected across Delhi to promote the ₹1 lakh crore budget, but the source of this money was never disclosed.

He alleged that information has emerged indicating that the Delhi government quietly approached the Reserve Bank to seek permission to borrow ₹1,000 crore from the open market.

Bhardwaj emphasized that during the tenure of the AAP government led by Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi consistently presented a revenue surplus budget and never needed to borrow from the open market. However, he claimed that the BJP government has deteriorated the financial situation within just one year.

He further accused the BJP government of not initiating any new development projects in the past year. According to him, the government is merely renaming projects started during the AAP’s tenure and presenting them as new achievements.

Bhardwaj stated that existing dispensaries and Mohalla clinics have simply been repainted and renamed “Arogya Mandir.” Similarly, buses introduced during Kejriwal’s administration are being repainted and labeled as “Devi Buses.” He also mentioned that the boards for the “School of Excellence” named after Dr. B.R. Ambedkar have been replaced with “CM Shri School” boards, falsely claiming that 73 new schools have been established.

He asserted that no new tenders have been issued, no construction has taken place, and not a single brick has been laid, yet claims of new schools continue. Bhardwaj also alleged that out of the 540 Mohalla clinics that existed, approximately 450 have been shut down, leaving only about 100 operational.

He demanded that the government clarify where the funds from the ₹1 lakh crore budget were spent and why it has resorted to borrowing. Bhardwaj called for the Delhi government to present a complete account of its financial status and budget expenditures to the public.
