Lucknow, February 27: Avadhesh Prasad, a Member of Parliament from the Samajwadi Party, has expressed deep concern over the deteriorating condition of the Saryu River. He lamented that the existence of the Saryu, revered as a mother, is currently at risk. The river has now receded towards Gonda, primarily due to the government’s misguided policies, leading to a significant drop in water levels.
In an interview on Friday, he stated, “If you visit Ram Ki Paidi today, there isn’t a single drop of water. Water is being drawn from hand pumps and poured into Ram Ki Paidi, all due to the BJP’s policies. I have no hesitation in saying that this government makes false promises that bear no relation to reality. It has lost touch with the interests of the people.”
Avadhesh Prasad further emphasized that the name of the Saryu River is mentioned in our scriptures. He urged the government to rename the Ghaghra River back to Saryu. “If this government fails to act, I assure you that when our government comes to power, we will rename this river Saryu within 24 hours. Not only will we change its name, but we will also enhance its significance,” he asserted.
He noted that the current flow of the Saryu River has reached Gonda and stressed the need to redirect its course back to Ayodhya to facilitate smooth bathing for pilgrims.
Additionally, he commented on the demolition actions in Ayodhya, stating, “I have raised this issue multiple times. I have mentioned in Parliament how bulldozers are being used on people’s homes in Ayodhya, with their lands being seized. Such malicious attempts have been made repeatedly. I will continue to bring this issue to light and discuss it with my leader, Akhilesh Yadav. I will also inform the public about this. These actions are undermining the sanctity of Ayodhya.”
