Mumbai, May 12: Sanjay Nirupam, spokesperson for the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction), responded sharply to Raj Thackeray’s criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to reduce fuel and gold consumption. He accused the opposition of losing their mental balance.
Nirupam stated, “Prime Minister Modi has urged citizens to curb spending in light of the escalating conflict in West Asia, which could lead to worsening conditions and a new crisis. He advised people to save foreign currency as much as possible and provided guidance in this regard. I believe the public has accepted the Prime Minister’s appeal, but opposition leaders are protesting. This opposition will only worsen their situation.”
In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, Nirupam remarked, “Since Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged citizens to be frugal and suggested refraining from buying gold for a year, and reducing diesel, petrol, and cooking oil consumption, the entire opposition has gone mentally deranged. From Delhi to Mumbai, opposition members are questioning the Prime Minister’s protocol and blaming the government for the impending economic crisis.”
He questioned the opposition, “Did we start the war in West Asia? In this era of the global economy, won’t any conflict affect us? The opposition is undermining the importance of the Prime Minister’s security by questioning his protocol due to their frustrations. Should the Prime Minister walk? Should he drive his own car or work from home? When will the opposition understand?”
Nirupam further stated, “Currently, there is no crisis. Diesel and petrol supplies are sufficient. The foreign currency reserves are stable. However, foreign institutions are withdrawing from the market, which may lead to a future foreign currency crisis. Hence, the suggestion to postpone gold purchases is not just the Prime Minister’s concern; it should be the concern of every citizen. Yet, the opposition has become so mentally bankrupt that they cannot refrain from politicizing even during a crisis.”
Regarding the arrest of former West Bengal minister Sujit Bose by the Enforcement Directorate, Nirupam commented, “I believe it is Sujit Bose who has been arrested and questioned by the ED. He ran a significant racket for jobs in municipalities, reportedly receiving around 150 recommendations. He charged money for every job. His bank accounts show transactions worth millions, exposing corruption. The roles of Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee in this matter appear suspicious. There should be a thorough investigation into the scams that occurred under Mamata didi’s government, and action should be taken against the corrupt.”
