New Delhi, February 28: Senior Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit has responded to the acquittal of former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in the liquor policy case.
In an interview with a news agency, Dikshit stated, “When Arvind Kejriwal was released yesterday, it became clear that there was a collusion between the BJP and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). We had been saying that this would be the outcome. I made the same statement this morning. Whether Arvind Kejriwal is out or not will not make a difference in Delhi. The BJP currently needs him to use against Congress in the upcoming elections in Punjab, Uttarakhand, and other states.”
Dikshit further asserted, “I do not consider any of them innocent. I am not suggesting that the government has an influence over the judiciary. If the CBI had not prepared the case, what have they been doing for the past two years? I believe they were instructed to do so, as we do not see this in other cases.”
Regarding the bail granted to Uday Bhanu Chib, president of the Youth Congress, Dikshit remarked that it was not surprising. He added, “The surprising part is that he was arrested. There was a protest at the AI Summit; if the government does not like opposition, that is their choice. However, for the past 60-70 years, protests have been a part of Indian democracy, not just by Congress but by every party. Some people protested in front of Manmohan Singh. The ruling party does not decide what the opposition should protest about. You must have seen videos of BJP members tearing papers in front of Manmohan Singh. Protests continue, whether someone likes it or not.”
He continued, “It is our well-known practice that if a protest is deemed inappropriate, individuals are detained, taken to the police station, and released by evening. Nothing came out of the AI Summit. The Youth Congress protested. The government is starting to punish based on its own criteria. The allegations being made do not hold any meaning. I hope that when the matter goes to court, the Youth Congress workers will receive relief.”
