New Delhi, February 2: India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will embark on a three-day visit to the United States starting Monday. During this visit, he will participate in the Critical Minerals Ministerial Meeting convened by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated that the meeting will focus on supply chain resilience, clean energy transition, and strategic cooperation on critical minerals. Besides the ministerial meeting, S. Jaishankar is scheduled to hold discussions with senior members of the US government.
Last week, Jaishankar met with US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor in New Delhi, where they discussed various aspects of the bilateral relationship. Jaishankar expressed confidence that Gor would contribute to strengthening ties between India and the United States.
On social media platform X, Jaishankar wrote, “Pleasure meeting US Ambassador Sergio Gor in New Delhi. We discussed many aspects of our partnership. Welcomed him and expressed confidence that he will help strengthen India-US relations.”
Earlier, on January 25, Jaishankar met with a US congressional delegation including Mike Rogers, Adam Smith, and Jimmy Patronis in New Delhi. The discussions covered enhancing bilateral relations, developments in the Indo-Pacific region, and the situation in Ukraine.
Jaishankar also held a telephone conversation with Marco Rubio on January 13, reviewing cooperation in civil nuclear energy, trade talks, and regional security in the Indo-Pacific. Jaishankar noted on X that they talked about trade, critical minerals, nuclear cooperation, defence, and energy, agreeing to stay in touch on these issues.
During the call, Rubio congratulated India on implementing the Sustainable Harnessing and Advancement of Nuclear Energy Bill, part of India’s nuclear energy framework, as confirmed by Tommy Pigott, Principal Deputy Spokesperson of the US State Department.
