Russian Parliament Speaker Arrives in New Delhi for 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum

Vyacheslav Volodin arrives in New Delhi for the 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum, focusing on development and parliamentary cooperation.

New Delhi, October 25 (Daily Kiran) : The Russian Parliament Speaker, Vyacheslav Volodin, has arrived in New Delhi to participate in the 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum, scheduled for October 26 and 27. The Indian Parliament will host the forum in the Central Hall of the Constitution House on these dates.

This forum will bring together parliamentary leaders from BRICS member countries and partner nations to discuss issues such as development based on public interests and strengthening parliamentary cooperation.

Earlier this week, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla announced that the forum would take place in the Constitution House. During a press conference at the Parliament House, he mentioned that this event marks a new chapter in India’s parliamentary diplomacy. It will feature speakers from the parliaments of BRICS member and partner countries, parliamentary leaders, central ministers, and other dignitaries, including Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also expected to attend the event and meet with leaders of delegations from various countries. During the forum, bilateral and multilateral meetings will be held with leaders of the visiting delegations and parliamentary friendship groups. Additionally, a meeting of secretaries from various delegations will take place on October 25 to finalize a joint statement for the forum.

Birla noted that suggestions had been received from 18 countries, which will guide the discussions. India has initiated a new endeavor by forming parliamentary friendship groups with 64 countries, a comprehensive effort that is unprecedented. These groups will also be expanded to countries where parliamentary friendship platforms already exist between India and those nations.

Discussing the main theme of the program, Birla highlighted that the central topic will be “Strengthening Parliaments for People-Centric Development.” The discussions will focus on how parliaments can play a significant role in improving the lives of ordinary citizens and enhancing the effectiveness of development initiatives.
