New Delhi: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced that the next round of talks aimed at ending the ongoing conflict with Russia will begin in Abu Dhabi. The discussions will start on Wednesday with the presence of the United States.
On the social media platform X, President Zelensky wrote, “The dates for the next meeting have been set for February 4 and 5 in Abu Dhabi. Ukraine is ready for important talks, and we want to ensure that the outcome brings us closer to a real and respectful end to the war.”
Earlier, Ukraine, Russia, and the United States completed a two-day tripartite peace negotiation on January 23-24 in Abu Dhabi, mediated by the U.S. Ukraine described those talks as constructive.
The United States has been actively working to facilitate peace between Ukraine and Russia. However, the path to a resolution continues to be challenging.
Recent media reports revealed that the U.S. President personally called Russian President Vladimir Putin, urging him to halt attacks on Ukraine. According to UN News, Russia has targeted Ukraine’s energy grid in recent months.
Information shared by DW indicates that these attacks have severely affected the power supply, causing hardships for ordinary people who are forced to live in darkness. The damage to the energy grid, combined with heavy snowfall and cold weather, has made it difficult for residents to stay indoors comfortably.
Governor Ivan Fedorov of the southeastern Zaporizhzhia region earlier reported that after Russian air strikes, nearly 60,000 homes were left without electricity.
When asked about the prospects of peace talks, former U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday, “I believe they have a chance. Zelensky and Putin hate each other.” He added that the animosity between the two leaders has made the conflict particularly difficult.
