
Kolkata, April 29: The second phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections in 2026 has seen a mix of enthusiasm and some complaints from various regions of the state.
Long queues of voters were observed at Talatala High School on SN Banerjee Road in the Entally Assembly constituency, with many citizens eager to exercise their voting rights.
BJP candidate Rupa Ganguly from the Sonarpur South constituency arrived at Rajendra Shiksha Sadan Girls High School to cast her vote. After voting, she remarked, “This time, everyone has come out early to vote. This election is going to be very significant.”
In the Rashbehari Assembly constituency of South Kolkata, BJP candidate Swapna Das Gupta voted at Basanti Devi College. He noted, “Two things stood out in the first phase: record voter turnout and no major incidents of violence or deaths. Overall, violence was minimal. We hope the second phase will be similar and set a new record.”
He also mentioned that security arrangements were excellent, and the voting process was proceeding peacefully and smoothly. However, there were some complaints from certain locations. In Panihati, BJP candidate Ratna Debnath reported delays in the EVM machine’s sound, raising concerns about potential malfunctions.
Amit Samanta, BJP candidate from the Amta Assembly constituency in Howrah district, also cast his vote at Kachida Primary School.
In the Chapra Assembly constituency of Nadia district, BJP candidate Saikat Sarkar made serious allegations. He claimed that at 6 AM, as his booth agent was heading to the polling station, he was attacked by goons of the TMC candidate, Mofidul, with a gun butt, sticks, and rods. The injured agent has been hospitalized.
