Mumbai, March 17: The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) has issued a short notice for the recruitment of Assistant Locomotive Pilots (ALP). This recruitment drive aims to fill a total of 11,127 positions across various railway zones in the country.

This announcement is significant for young individuals seeking government jobs in Indian Railways. The recruitment process, identified as CEN 01/2026, marks one of the largest technical hiring initiatives in recent years.

Important Dates and Application Process

The RRB has released crucial dates for candidates to prepare:

– Date of notice issuance: March 16, 2026
– Start date for online applications: May 15, 2026
– Last date for applications: June 14, 2026 (by 11:59 PM)

Interested candidates can fill out the online form on the official railway website, rrbapply.gov.in, once the application process begins. The board advises candidates to prepare all necessary certificates and documents before the detailed notification is released.

Eligibility and Age Limit

Educational Qualification: Candidates eligible for this position must have completed their 10th grade (Matriculation) from a recognized board. Additionally, they should possess an ITI certificate in the relevant trade (such as Fitter, Electrician, Diesel Mechanic, etc.). Candidates with a diploma or degree in engineering are also eligible to apply.

Age Limit (as of July 1, 2026): The minimum age for candidates is 18 years, while the maximum age is 30 years. Reserved categories (SC/ST/OBC/Ex-SM) will receive age relaxation as per government rules.

Salary and Selection Process

The Assistant Locomotive Pilot position falls under Pay Level-2 of the 7th Pay Commission. The initial basic pay for selected candidates will be ₹19,900, along with additional railway allowances.

Selection Stages:
1. First Stage (CBT-1): This will be a screening test.
2. Second Stage (CBT-2): This will consist of exams based on technical and general subjects.
3. Computer-Based Aptitude Test (CBAT): Mandatory psycho test specifically for the ALP position.
4. Document Verification and Medical Examination: Candidates must be physically fit, particularly meeting the ‘A-1’ vision standard.

Aadhaar Verification Mandatory

The railway has made Aadhaar-based verification mandatory for this recruitment process. This step aims to enhance transparency and facilitate the identification of candidates at various stages. The board has clarified that the name and birth date in the candidate’s Aadhaar must match exactly with those on their 10th-grade certificate.
