New Delhi, April 4: The Rouse Avenue Court has completed the hearing in the money laundering case involving Robert Vadra. The court has reserved its judgment for a later date. This case is linked to a land deal in Shikohpur, Gurugram, where the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has filed a chargesheet against Vadra and others. The court will decide whether to take cognizance of this chargesheet on April 15.
The case dates back to 2008 when approximately 3.53 acres of land was transacted in the Shikohpur area of Gurugram. The ED alleges that money laundering and irregularities occurred during this land deal. According to the agency, Vadra’s company, Skylight Hospitality Private Limited, purchased the land from Omkareshwar Properties Private Limited for around ₹7.5 crore in February 2008.
The ED claims that various irregularities were involved in this transaction. The agency states that the company did not have sufficient capital at the time yet proceeded with the purchase. Additionally, it is alleged that the actual payment was not made, and false information was provided in the sale deed. A check that was supposedly issued was never cashed or even released.
The investigation agency also asserts that the land’s value was deliberately understated to evade stamp duty. The ED has classified this under Section 423 of the Indian Penal Code as a crime. In its complaint, the ED has identified approximately ₹58 crore in proceeds of crime related to this case.
As part of its investigation, the ED has temporarily attached 43 properties worth around ₹38.69 crore. The agency claims these properties are either directly linked to the alleged irregularities or were acquired through them. Ownership of these properties is attributed to Robert Vadra, his companies like Artex and Skylight Hospitality, and other associated firms.
In 2012, Haryana’s senior IAS officer Ashok Khemka canceled this land deal citing irregularities. However, a government panel later cleared Vadra and DLF. Following the formation of the BJP government in Haryana, the case was reopened, and police filed an FIR.
