Patna, March 12: Political tensions are rising amid rumors of LPG cylinder shortages in parts of India, coinciding with increasing unrest in West Asia. Rohini Acharya, a leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and daughter of Lalu Prasad Yadav, sharply criticized the central government on Thursday regarding this issue.
Reports of a potential LPG cylinder shortage have led to long queues outside gas agencies in several locations. Consumers are rushing to book or collect cylinders, prompting the opposition to announce protests.
In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, Acharya mocked the central government, questioning when the “celebration” of gas shortages would take place. She sarcastically referred to it as the “Prime Minister’s Queue Plan,” accusing the government of forcing people to stand in line for currency exchange and during the oxygen shortage, and now for LPG cylinders.
Acharya also accused the government of turning crises into public spectacles, creating a culture that celebrates the struggles of ordinary citizens. Her comments highlighted the long lines outside LPG agency warehouses in various districts of Bihar and other parts of the country. Many consumers are facing difficulties in booking cylinders, with several LPG companies’ websites and online booking systems malfunctioning.
Meanwhile, the central government has clarified that domestic LPG consumers will not face a shortage of cylinders. Prime Minister Modi urged the public to avoid rumors and rely only on verified information. He acknowledged some supply chain issues but expressed confidence that the situation would normalize soon. He reminded citizens that the country has previously navigated challenging times, such as the COVID-19 pandemic.
This issue has sparked a new political debate between the government and the opposition regarding fuel supply, public concerns, and crisis management.
