Patna, February 20: The law and order situation in Bihar is under scrutiny as the state’s double-engine government faces criticism from the opposition. The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and other opposition parties claim that incidents of rape and murder of women and girls are on the rise, yet the state government appears oblivious to these issues.

Former Chief Minister Rabri Devi led a protest outside the Legislative Council, expressing her concerns about women’s safety in the state.

In a conversation with the media, Rabri Devi stated that every day, incidents of rape against girls and women occur in various districts. She urged the government to take action and provide answers. Instead of addressing the issue, she accused the government of attempting to divert attention with irrelevant statements. “The people of the country, state, and Bihar are watching everything,” she remarked.

Rabri Devi questioned the claims of the double-engine government regarding ‘Ram Rajya,’ pointing out that incidents of robbery and rape are frequent. “Is this what we consider Ram Rajya?” she asked.

Regarding the liquor ban, Rabri Devi mentioned that she would not comment extensively, as it is a matter for the central and state governments to decide. While they claim there is a ban, she questioned its effectiveness, noting that liquor is still being seized and smuggled across borders. She emphasized that the responsibility lies with the police and officials stationed at the borders, and the government must take strict action. She highlighted the tragic deaths caused by toxic alcohol consumption in Bihar.

A post from RJD’s social media platform X stated that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has become an “unconscious puppet,” while the entire government apparatus remains shameless and indifferent. “Every day, atrocities against girls and women are escalating, yet the government shows no concern,” it read.
