
Patna, September 2: In light of the recent floods and devastation in Nepal, the Bihar government has urged residents to exercise caution regarding fish consumption. Reports indicate that unusually large fish have been flowing into Bihar’s rivers, prompting the state to recommend avoiding fish for a few days.
Bihar Minister Nandkishore Ram has called for vigilance among the public regarding these abnormal fish reaching the state via river routes after the floods in Nepal.
In a statement, the minister appealed to all residents, asking them to refrain from eating fish for a short period. He noted that the department is actively monitoring the situation. This time, they have observed fish that have never been seen before, with distinct colors and appearances compared to local species.
One example he provided was a fish that appeared to have skin resembling that of an elephant. As a precaution, the government has advised against consuming these fish for the time being. Guidelines have also been issued by the relevant department regarding this matter.
The minister expressed concerns that if health issues arise from consuming these fish, the government may impose a complete ban on their consumption. He highlighted potential symptoms that could occur after eating the fish, such as dizziness, vomiting, abdominal pain, and difficulty breathing. However, he clarified that the department is currently investigating the situation.
Regarding the rising water levels in the rivers of Champaran, Minister Nandkishore Ram stated that while the water level has increased, there was a temporary decrease as well. The government is closely monitoring the situation and is fully prepared to handle any developments. They have urged residents in low-lying areas to move to safer locations.
The minister appealed to the people of Bihar to seek safe places if water levels are rising in their areas. The government stands with the flood-affected individuals and will provide all possible assistance when needed.
