New Delhi, October 6 (Daily Kiran) : Italian tennis sensation Jannik Sinner has announced the premature conclusion of his 2026 season due to a knee injury. The 21-year-old athlete has been grappling with this issue since July.
Since winning Wimbledon, Sinner has not participated in any tournaments, missing out on both the North American hard-court swing and the Asian swing.
In a statement shared on social media, Sinner explained his decision to end the season early, emphasizing the need for treatment on his knee. “After discussions with my doctors, we have decided that I need to undergo treatment, which means my 2026 season is officially over. Over the past few years, especially at the end of the season in Turin, I’ve had wonderful feelings and experiences, but this year is going to be different,” he wrote.
Sinner also missed the US Open and reiterated his focus on his long-term career. He expressed gratitude for the support he has received and stated, “I will do everything possible to recover fully. I hope to see you back on the court soon.”
The young star began the season in remarkable form, clinching five consecutive ATP Masters 1000 titles in Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo, Madrid, and Rome. These victories allowed him to achieve the coveted ‘Career Golden Masters.’ Sinner is also a two-time champion of the Nitto ATP Finals.
Despite a stunning run of 30 consecutive match wins, his momentum was halted when he fell to Juan Manuel Cerundolo in the second round of Roland Garros. However, Sinner rebounded to defeat Alexander Zverev in the final, securing his first major title on grass. This victory marked his last appearance before his injury sidelined him. Earlier in the year, he reached the semifinals at the Australian Open, where he lost to Novak Djokovic.
