
Dubai, October 6 (Daily Kiran) : In Dubai, Shefali Verma and Sri Charni have been nominated for the ICC Women’s Player of the Month award, following their impressive performances in the Women’s Asia Cup and the Asian Games 2026. They are joined by Sri Lankan captain Chamari Athapaththu on the shortlist for September 2026.
Shefali has had a remarkable month, scoring 360 runs in seven T20 matches with an average of 72 and a strike rate of 184.61. The 22-year-old also contributed with the ball, taking six wickets at an average of 13. She emerged as the leading run-scorer in the Women’s Asia Cup, amassing 236 runs across five innings.
Charni has established herself as one of India’s most reliable bowlers. The left-arm spinner claimed 18 wickets in seven T20 matches during September. She played a pivotal role in India’s successful Asia Cup campaign, taking 12 wickets, and added another eight during the Asian Games.
On the men’s side, Abhishek Sharma has been shortlisted after a stellar series against Afghanistan. He scored 229 runs at an average of 76.33 over three T20 matches. Abhishek made a spectacular comeback in the first match in Delhi, scoring 82 runs off just 32 balls, completing his half-century in just 22 deliveries. India chased down a target of 157 with 38 balls to spare, and he was named Player of the Match.
In the second T20, he scored 39 runs off 19 balls, but it was the third match where he truly shined, scoring 108 runs off 45 balls. His century was the fastest recorded by a batsman from a Full Member nation in T20 cricket. For his outstanding performance, he was awarded Player of the Series.
Meanwhile, Indian captain Shubman Gill also had a stellar September, recording remarkable innings in the ODI format. He scored 110 runs against the West Indies in Thiruvananthapuram and an unbeaten 223 runs in Guwahati, leading India to a 2-1 series victory.
Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza received his nomination following impressive displays against Australia, despite the team losing the three-match ODI series. As the No. 2 ODI all-rounder, he played a crucial role in the first match, scoring 57 runs and forming a 98-run partnership with Craig Ervine after the team lost four early wickets. In the second ODI, he added 45 runs from 45 balls and contributed significantly in the final match, scoring an unbeaten 81 runs off 72 balls to help his team reach a total of 271/8.
