Kochi, September 1: Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan attended the silver jubilee celebration of Rajagiri School of Engineering and Technology in Kochi on Monday, where he inaugurated ‘Confluence 3.0’. He called for a stronger connection between research-based higher education and industry.
During his address, the Vice President highlighted the need for Kerala to focus on high-tech industries to create jobs and empower people to return to their native regions. He stated, “We are not preparing people according to job requirements; we must understand market demands.”
Radhakrishnan praised Kerala’s achievements in literacy, social development, and human capital. He noted that Rajagiri has played a significant role not only in producing technical experts but also in preparing individuals who contribute to public services.
He congratulated the institution on its 25th anniversary and appreciated its commitment to integrating values with technical excellence.
Reflecting on the contributions of the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate and the legacy of Saint Kuriakose Elias Chavara, he discussed their efforts in promoting the democratization of education, women’s education, and adult literacy.
Emphasizing the changing demands of a technology-driven world, the Vice President asserted that education should not be limited to degrees. He called for a greater focus on research, innovation, and problem-solving. He praised Confluence 3.0 and stressed the necessity of strong partnerships between industry and academia to establish India as a global hub for technology and startups.
He referenced changes in China, noting that its progress highlights the importance of continuous investment in higher education, research, and innovation. He urged Kerala to strengthen research-oriented higher education.
The Vice President also urged youth to say no to drugs, warning that fleeting pleasures can destroy great hopes and goals. He encouraged students to utilize their abilities for the welfare of society and humanity.
On this occasion, the Vice President laid the foundation stone for the administrative building of Rajagiri School. The event was attended by Kerala’s Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, Chief Minister V. D. Satheesan, and several dignitaries.
