Tensions Rise in Bihar Village as Police Clash with Locals Over Dispute

Patna, September 1: A police team investigating a dispute between two factions in Katsikari village, under the Ramnagar police station, faced significant resistance from locals on Monday afternoon. The situation escalated into a scuffle, resulting in damage to a police vehicle.

According to police reports, tensions flared when officers attempted to intervene in the ongoing conflict. Residents allegedly pushed back against the police team, breaking the window of a police car. In light of the escalating situation, law enforcement temporarily withdrew.

Subsequently, additional forces from the Ramnagar and Govardhan police stations were deployed to regain control. Three individuals were taken into custody for questioning. To assess the situation, SP Rajesh Kumar and SDPO Nihar Bhushan visited the village.

Authorities indicated that the dispute is linked to a long-standing marital conflict between Sattan Ram, a resident of Garhwa Bhogdi Piparpati under the Majholia police station, and Mukhlal Ram’s daughter, Naina Kumari, from Katsikari. The couple married in 2016 and has two daughters.

Sattan, who worked in a Gulf country for nearly seven years, claims he regularly sent money to his wife, which was used to purchase land and build a house in Katsikari. Upon returning, he questioned her behavior, alleging that she had been living with Pappu Ansari from Mathiya village since after last year’s Holi festival.

On Monday, Naina reportedly returned home with Pappu, his mother Gaura Khatun, and others. It is alleged that they broke into the house, prompting locals to lock it from the outside due to the ongoing dispute. Sattan’s family was informed, and their supporters arrived, leading to a confrontation.

SI Imtiazul Haq arrived at the scene with a police team to extract those trapped inside, but locals resisted. The police faced physical pushback, resulting in damage to one of their vehicles.

Later, a larger police team, led by Circle Inspector Joginder Ravidass and SHO Mahendra Kumar, managed to calm the situation.

SHO Mahendra Kumar confirmed that the situation is now fully under control. Three individuals remain in custody, and further action will be taken following the investigation and formal complaints.
