Jaipur, September 1: The Rajasthan government is preparing to increase crude oil production to 80,000 barrels per day through a phased approach. Modern extraction techniques will be employed for this initiative, as announced by Additional Chief Secretary (Mines and Petroleum) Aparna Arora on Monday.
Currently, Rajasthan produces approximately 51,000 to 52,000 barrels of crude oil daily. To enhance production, oil companies will utilize Alkaline Surfactant Polymer (ASP) technology in the Barmer-Sanchore and Jaisalmer basins, along with Cyclic Steam Stimulation (CSS) technology in the Bikaner-Nagaur basin.
Aparna Arora stated that there are currently 12 active petroleum leases and 12 petroleum exploration licenses in the state. Natural gas production stands at around 2.6 to 2.8 MMSCM per day. During a review meeting on petroleum and city gas distribution (CGD) at the secretariat, she noted that Rajasthan ranks second in the country for natural gas production and third for crude oil production.
She also mentioned that the HRRL Rajasthan refinery will have a processing capacity of 9 MMT per year, capable of refining approximately 1.5 million tons of crude oil produced in the state. Arora emphasized the importance of refining the extracted crude oil within Rajasthan.
While reviewing the progress of the city gas distribution project, Arora highlighted the goal of establishing 60 CNG stations in the current financial year, with 23 stations already operational. She instructed officials to complete the target by December.
Additionally, she stressed the need to expedite the increase of Domestic Piped Natural Gas (DPNG) connections, particularly in multi-story residential buildings.
During the meeting, Petroleum Director Avadhesh Singh reported that companies like Cairn Vedanta, Oil India, ONGC, and Focus Energy are engaged in the exploration and production of crude oil and natural gas in Rajasthan. RSGTL Managing Director Vinay Pathni provided updates on the progress of city gas distribution projects.
The meeting was attended by Special Secretary of the Mines Department Namrata Vrishni, Deputy Secretary Rakesh Kumar, OSD Anuj Saxena, Joint Director (Petroleum) Dilip Raj Sharma, and other officials.
