Dehradun, August 13: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami swiftly responded to an incident at the under-construction THDC tunnel in Chamoli, where debris and water accumulation posed serious risks. Upon receiving the news late Thursday night, he immediately arrived at the State Disaster Operations Center in Dehradun to oversee the rescue efforts.
During a video conference, CM Dhami connected with the rescued workers, checking on their well-being and boosting their morale. He assured them that the state government stands firmly by their side, promising comprehensive arrangements for their medical care and rehabilitation.
The Chief Minister maintained continuous communication with senior officials from the Chamoli district administration, SDRF, NDRF, ITBP, the army, and other relevant agencies, providing real-time updates and directives. He emphasized that the top priority is to safely evacuate every individual trapped in the tunnel, and any delays in rescue operations would not be tolerated.
Current reports indicate that a total of 22 individuals are trapped in the tunnel, with 16 successfully rescued so far. Efforts to extract the remaining individuals are ongoing.
CM Dhami also spoke with District Magistrate Gaurav Kumar to obtain detailed information on the relief and rescue operations, instructing immediate arrangements for all necessary resources. He further communicated with the Deputy CMO to ensure that the injured receive optimal medical care without delay, and to refer critically injured individuals to AIIMS or other advanced medical facilities via helicopter if necessary.
The Chief Minister stated that the state government is closely monitoring the situation and will continue the relief and rescue operations with full force and coordination until all individuals are safely evacuated.
District Magistrate Gaurav Kumar is personally overseeing the rescue operations at the site. Teams from the district administration, police, SDRF, NDRF, ITBP, the army, and other relevant agencies are working collaboratively at a war footing. The administration has also ensured that essential resources, machinery, and medical facilities are promptly available at the site.
The meeting included Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan, Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman, and all relevant officials.
