New Delhi, August 19: Congress Rajya Sabha member Renuka Chowdhury has responded strongly to the ongoing controversy surrounding Vande Mataram and allegations against Sonia Gandhi. She criticized the BJP and RSS, claiming they are using Vande Mataram as a tool to spread hatred in the country.
Chowdhury remarked on the accusations related to the singing of Vande Mataram and the allegations against Sonia Gandhi, stating, “These are baseless accusations. This is all being done to divert attention from real issues. Neither the Prime Minister nor anyone else has acknowledged the injustices faced by children. The NEET exam papers keep leaking. Allegations regarding Vande Mataram are being made to distract from these pressing matters.”
She further questioned, “Did anyone actually hear what Sonia Gandhi said? They just made accusations based on her gestures. We know what she said. So what response should we give to these people?”
In response to actress and MP Kangana Ranaut’s statement that “Congress is more sensitive about patriotism and national songs than Pakistan,” Chowdhury fired back. She stated, “In reality, Kangana was not given a script. No one informed her about the country’s history. The RSS has never hoisted the tricolor at their headquarters. They have never even mentioned Vande Mataram. Now, they suddenly act like patriots, using Vande Mataram to deliberately incite unrest in the country.”
When asked whether the entire song of Vande Mataram is politically motivated and divisive, she replied, “The decision was made based on the atmosphere at that time. The reasons behind their actions today are for them to know, and God knows. Even Lord Ram is sitting apart from them.”
Chowdhury also referenced Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, stating, “Mallikarjun Kharge is a great man. He has continuously fought and won elections. When he went to Haldwani, he ensured purification was carried out.”
Responding to Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy’s comment that “Sonia Gandhi disrespected Vande Mataram because she has Italian blood,” Chowdhury said, “What is in their blood? This is how they treat daughters-in-law. Daughters-in-law are always seen as outsiders. Yet, we are always blamed and labeled as outsiders. This is why we still see cases of brides being burned in our country, due to such mindsets. What is your blood? What community do you belong to?”
