Mumbai, July 21: On the birth anniversary of renowned Hindi film lyricist Anand Bakshi, his grandson and film director Aditya Dutt shared an emotional tribute on Tuesday.
Aditya Dutt posted an old family photograph on Instagram, writing, “Happy birthday to number one grandfather Anand Bakshi. You gave me the greatest world, and this world is captured in this picture. You will always remain in our memories.”
Anand Bakshi is celebrated as one of the most successful lyricists in the Hindi film industry, having penned over 4,000 songs throughout his career. He was nominated for the Filmfare Award 40 times and won the Best Lyricist award four times.
Born in Rawalpindi (now in Pakistan), Anand Bakshi served in the Royal Indian Navy before entering the film industry. Even during his service, he wrote songs and poetry. To pursue his dream of becoming a lyricist, he left his job and moved to Mumbai, where he faced significant struggles initially. His first opportunity came with filmmaker Bhagwan Dada’s film ‘Bhala Aadmi,’ for which he earned a mere 150 rupees.
He went on to write memorable songs for iconic films such as ‘Aradhana,’ ‘Amar Prem,’ ‘Kati Patang,’ ‘Hare Rama Hare Krishna,’ ‘Sholay,’ ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge,’ ‘Taal,’ and ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha.’ He formed long and successful partnerships with legendary composers like R.D. Burman and Laxmikant-Pyarelal.
As for Aditya Dutt, he is known for directing thrillers and action films in Bollywood. He gained recognition with the 2005 release ‘Aashiq Banaya Aapne,’ starring Emraan Hashmi. His other notable directorial works include ‘Dil Diya Hai’ (2006), ‘Good Luck’ (2008), ‘Will You Marry Me?’ (2012), and ‘Table No. 21’ (2013).
