Kolkata, June 13: Reju Dutta, a suspended leader from the Trinamool Congress (TMC), shared his insights on the recent controversies within the party. He emphasized that the law should be allowed to take its course, and the truth will emerge after thorough investigations.
Regarding the recent disagreements between Kalyan Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee, Dutta noted that it is encouraging to see a reconciliation atmosphere developing between the two leaders. Just a day prior, Abhishek referred to Kalyan as a father figure, and Kalyan has now shown generosity by forgiving him like a son. While this is an internal matter for TMC, Dutta asserted that Kalyan Banerjee does not need TMC; rather, TMC needs Kalyan Banerjee. Given the current circumstances, Abhishek Banerjee may require the support of seasoned lawyers, making Kalyan’s role potentially crucial.
On the allegations against Abhishek Banerjee and his aide, Sumit Roy, Dutta stated that he is aware of multiple charges against them. He claimed that cases involving the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), and Criminal Investigation Department (CID) are ongoing. Dutta mentioned that an FIR has been filed at Bishnupur police station concerning an alleged ₹250 crore corruption case linked to Cyclone Amphan relief efforts, which reportedly includes Abhishek’s name.
Commenting on the ED’s raid at TMC MLA Madan Mitra’s residence in connection with a municipal recruitment scam, Dutta said that if the ED has received complaints and found evidence during their investigation, they have every right to proceed. He added that the investigation is ongoing, and if Mitra is innocent, he should not worry. The situation will become clear based on the facts that emerge from the investigation. If no evidence is found against him in court, he will be honorably acquitted.
Regarding TMC MP Kakoli Ghosh’s complaint against Kalyan Banerjee before the Lok Sabha Speaker, Dutta remarked that it is a matter between two MPs. If Ghosh has solid evidence, she has the right to file a complaint. Should the complaint be validated, Kalyan Banerjee will also have the opportunity to present his side. The truth will ultimately come out through legal processes.
Dutta also supported the actions of investigative agencies concerning the alleged forgery of a legislator’s signature sent to the Speaker. He stated that if Kunal Ghosh and Abhishek Banerjee are summoned for questioning, they should cooperate with the investigation. This is a serious matter involving allegations of forgery of legislators’ signatures. The investigative agency should take necessary steps to uncover the truth, and those summoned must comply with the law; otherwise, they may face legal consequences.
