Red Alert for Heavy Rain in Uttarakhand; Schools Closed in Tehri Garhwal on July 20

Dehradun, July 19: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for heavy rainfall in Tehri Garhwal on July 20. In response, District Magistrate and Chairperson of the District Disaster Management Authority, Nitika Khandelwal, has declared a one-day holiday for all government, private, and unaided schools (grades 1 to 12) as well as all Anganwadi centers in the district.

According to the issued order, all educational institutions and Anganwadi centers will remain completely closed on July 20, 2026. The District Magistrate has instructed all relevant officials, school managements, and principals to ensure strict compliance with this directive.

The order clearly states that if any school violates these instructions and any untoward incident occurs, the principal or manager will face action under the relevant sections of the Disaster Management Act of 2005.

The district administration has urged the public to heed the warnings issued by the meteorological department, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay away from rivers, streams, and landslide-prone areas during the rainfall.
